What is Far Infrared Sauna?

An infrared sauna  uses light to create heat. The term “far” describes where the infrared waves fall on the light spectrum. These types of light waves can penetrate the human body by more than 2 inches, creating a deep heat and raising core body temperature from the inside. Given that the body is heated directly without warming the air, an infrared sauna provides a comfortable experience while enhancing detoxification and optimizing one’s health.

What type of skin conditions can be improved?

“Infrared sauna technology can help purify your skin by eliminating toxins from your pores and increasing circulation, resulting in clearer, softer, and healthier-looking skin,” explains Amy Myers, M.D. Studies have found that use of a far-infrared sauna is beneficial for many common skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, and acne. In the case of acne, infrared saunas are effective in helping enlarged and inflamed pores by improving circulation to the skin and by removing waste from the body in an effective way.

How often and how many sessions do I need?

The number of sessions required before differences become noticeable varies for each individual, but most people find that 3 to 4 sessions a week is required to realize the full benefit.

How do I prepare?

The most important part of preparing for your first infrared sauna session is to hydrate! Being well hydrated will help you sweat (your body will only be able to sweat as much water as you give it). It is recommended to drink at least one litre of water before, one litre during, and one litre directly after your sauna. You should also allow for at least 2 hours after eating before you use an infrared sauna. It’s not a good idea to use a sauna on an empty stomach but it can also be quite uncomfortable to use a sauna immediately following a heavy meal. Finally, avoid body lotions or oils during your sauna session as this will inhibit sweating and clog your pores.
